Where To Sell Painted And Refinished Furniture
Are you a furniture refinishing artist eager to earn a bit more profit?
You've created stunning furniture but you’re struggling to sell your creations?
It can definitely be difficult to know where to sell your refinished furniture.
In this article, we'll explore eight fantastic platforms where you can showcase and sell your beautifully refinished furniture pieces. Let's dive into each option and unlock more profits!
1. Facebook Marketplace
- Facebook Marketplace has evolved into a go-to platform for buying and selling various items, including refinished furniture. This is definitely the most popular option for furniture artists.
- Facebook Marketplace reaches a lot of potential buyers and is the easiest platform to use as a beginner. Although it can be difficult to get your listening seen by the right people and you do have to sift through your fair share of scammers. Creating eye-catching listings with high-quality images, great staging, and detailed descriptions is key to attracting potential buyers. Despite its downfalls, Facebook Marketplace is an excellent place to sell your refinished furniture.
2. Etsy
- If your refinished furniture pieces are a bit more on the elaborate side and are a real work of art, Etsy is the perfect platform to showcase your craftsmanship. Etsy specialises in handmade and vintage goods, attracting a niche audience of passionate buyers. You need to get started by creating your own shop that showcases the beauty in the furniture you create. Offering detailed product descriptions and very professional high-quality staging and images is needed to be able to reach potential buyers.
- Etsy can be a tricky place as a beginner and getting your listings actually shown can be tricky. You need to focus on strong keywords in your descriptions and use Etsys tags and features. You also need to have a strong delivery process in place, to carefully package and deliver any items sold on Etsy. If you have the time to dedicate to this option, Etsy's community can be a great place to connect with like-minded buyers who appreciate the art of refinished furniture. You can also typically expect a much higher price on this platform.
3 - Instagram
- Leverage the visual power of Instagram to turn your feed into an inspiring virtual showroom. If you have taken the time to create and grow an Instagram following, this can be an amazing place to find new customers. You want to be sharing captivating photos and videos of your pieces in various settings to spark interest and inspiration.
- Engage your audience with relevant hashtags and interact with potential buyers through comments and direct messages. Make it as easy as possible for people to look through and shop what furniture you have available. Have a highlight of available pieces and link your Instagram to your website, online shop, or even to your Facebook marketplace. This allows interested followers to explore and purchase your pieces with ease. Instagram's visual appeal can help you build a loyal customer base and establish yourself as a unique and sought-after furniture refinisher.
4 - Local Consignment Shops
- If you would like to get some physical exposure for your refinished furniture but don’t want to pay upfront, local consignment shops offer an excellent opportunity to showcase your pieces in a brick-and-mortar setting. These stores often accept high-quality, upcycled furniture on consignment, reducing your upfront costs.
- Collaborating with consignment shops allows you to tap into an established customer base and gain valuable insights from in-person interactions. Sometimes when someone sees your refinished furniture in person they will just fall in love. The downside to this option is that often consignment shops take 50% of your profits and this can add up quickly.
5 - Craigslist
- Craigslist, a popular online classifieds platform, remains an option for selling refinished furniture to local buyers. This has not been that effective for me personally, however, I have seen people have good success with this platform.
- Once again crafting detailed listings with clear images and thorough descriptions helps attract potential buyers. This platform allows you to target buyers in your local area. However, exercising caution when arranging in-person transactions and following safety guidelines is always essential. It is well known that there are quite a few scammers on this platform.
6 - Flea, Vintage or Craft Markets
- Registering holding a stall at a local craft fair can be a fun and rewarding way to sell your refinished furniture pieces while engaging directly with buyers. This usually works better if you have smaller pieces of furniture and have little items to sell alongside your furniture. This could be painted home decor items, craft creations, or unique vintage items.
- Set up an attractive booth or stall that showcases your best pieces and entices visitors to explore your creations. Interacting face-to-face with customers allows you to share the stories behind your furniture creations, fostering a deeper connection with potential buyers. If you offer commission services these types of markets are also a great place to advertise your services to your local audience.
7 - Business Facebook page
- Facebook can sometimes get a bad reputation and don’t get me wrong Facebook marketplace does have its limitations. However, I think creating your own business page and growing a dedicated audience of refinished furniture lovers can be very advantageous for your business. You can sell your furniture creations to followers on your own page and advertise your commission services. This audience is more familiar with your work and more likely to buy from you. It’s possible to get to the point where you mostly sell to your own audience and very rarely need to expand outside of that audience.
- If your target client is on social media but you are struggling to reach them consider starting your own business page. The main disadvantage to this option is that it is a very time-consuming process and isn’t going to happen overnight.
8 - Your Own Website
- Establishing your own website and online store provides the ultimate control over your brand and business. Your website acts as an online shop front where customers can explore your entire collection, learn about you and your business, and seamlessly make purchases. Building a captivating website helps establish your authority and credibility in the furniture refinishing space. Streamlining the shopping experience with user-friendly navigation and secure checkout options ensures customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- By investing in your own website, you're investing in the long-term growth and success of your furniture-flipping business. It is definitely great to have your own website and it opens up so many other possibilities for you. However, creating and maintaining a website is a lot of work and not something I would recommend when you are starting out or if this is a small side hustle for you. Creating your own website is definitely something you would look into as your business grows.
Congratulations! You've now explored eight lucrative platforms where you can showcase and sell your refinished furniture pieces. From the bustling world of online marketplaces to the intimacy of local consignment shops and vintage markets, each option presents unique advantages for your furniture-flipping business.
Embrace the power of social media, connect with niche audiences, and create an enticing online presence through your website. As you embark on this exciting journey, remember to stay true to your passion and craftsmanship—your creativity will shine through in every piece you create.
