Complete House Transformation - What we are starting with!
This is my blank canvas—my new project that I’ll be working on over the next couple of months. I’m going to be transforming this entire house, room by room, and breaking it down into separate videos for you, showcasing what I’m doing in each room and teaching you how to do it too.
Each of these projects is going to be done DIY style and on a budget. Hopefully, this will show you what’s possible when it comes to transforming your home yourself without spending too much money.
There’s nothing special about this home in its current state. It has been tenanted for the last 10 years and it is a mess. The carpets are totally ruined and there’s so much work that needs to be done, but it has a whole lot of potential. This is what I’m going to showcase to you. Let’s dive in on a tour, room by room, and I’ll explain what I plan to do in each space.
Here we are in the master bedroom. We’re not going to do a huge makeover in this space, but we will completely freshen up the room and give it a nice feature. We’ll start by ripping out the stained carpets and old blinds. Next, we’ll paint the entire room, starting with the trim, which will be painted all white, followed by a neutral cream on the walls. To finish off, I’ll create a wood panel feature wall on the back wall, painting it a stunning feature colour.
The ensuite was renovated about 10 years ago and has held up reasonably well, but we’ll still do a little work to freshen it up. The tiles will stay, but we’ll clean up the space and paint the top half of the room a sage green to blend in with the feature tiles. The shower is quite dirty, so I’ll likely need to scrape out and re-grout it. The toilet is disgusting and will be completely replaced. Finally, we’ll style the space to make it look fresh and modern.
Next up is the kitchen. It’s currently very dirty, with cabinets full of mouse droppings. I’ll try to keep as much of the original kitchen as possible while completely transforming its feel. The laminate bench tops are in good condition and will stay. The cabinetry is mostly in good shape, except for a few spots with water damage. I’ll replace the damaged laminate, paint everything, and add DIY shaker-style frames to the doors. We’ll rip out the old tile splash back and replace it with a new one, dramatically improving the look and feel of the kitchen. The wood frames and pantry will be painted high-gloss white, and we’ll add shaker-style finishes to the pantry door. New appliances, including a dishwasher and cooktop, will be installed. The goal is to give this kitchen an entirely new feel without a complete renovation.
Moving on to the living and dining space, we’ll remove the carpet and lino flooring, replacing them with vinyl timber-look floors and new carpets. Between the lounge room and dining space, I’ll create a beautiful feature wall to blend the two rooms seamlessly, creating a stunning focal point as you walk through the front door.
The front entry will get a makeover to create a great first impression. We’ll replace the lino with patterned tiles, add a ¾ wall panel feature, and install hooks and a stunning feature colour to draw attention when people walk into the home.
In the main bathroom, we’ll replace nearly everything due to the poor condition. We’ll remove the shower screen, shower base, and tiles, keeping only the deep bathtub, which will be painted with epoxy white paint. We’ll install a new shower, shower screen, floating vanity, mirror, and retile everything. A fresh coat of paint will finish the space.
The second bedroom will get a complete freshen up. We’ll rip out the old carpet and curtains, paint the trim white, paint the walls, and add a half-panel feature wall with a shelf and pictures.
The toilet space will be simple: replace the old toilet and paint the room.
The third bedroom is small, so it could be used as an office. We’ll paint the trim high gloss white, paint the room, and add a feature wall that works for either a bedroom or an office. When styling the house for sale, it will be dressed as an office space.
The laundry space will get a complete makeover. We’ll rip out the old laundry trough, replace it with a new one, and add a laminate bench top. We’ll replace the tiles with new ones, possibly matching the front entry tiles, and create a feature wall with shelving. This will make the laundry a nice, fresh space.
Now that I’ve taken you through room by room and explained the plans, I’ll give you a whole house tour. This walking tour will show the overall look and feel of the home before we get started. At the end, I’ll do another walk-through tour to reveal the final result.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this walkthrough tour of the home I’ll be renovating over the next couple of months. I’ll be sharing videos and BLOG tutorials of each room transformation, so make sure to follow along as I completely transform this house.
