8 Stunning Furniture Transformations
Today, I'm excited to delve into the mesmerising world of furniture makeovers. Prepare to be inspired by the incredible before-and-after transformations of eight pieces. 🛋️🌟
Our journey begins with "Furniture Flip One"
I found a pair of bedside tables on Facebook Marketplace for just fifty dollars. At first glance, they were far from ready to shine. So, I rolled up my sleeves and began the journey of transforming them. The process involved extensive sanding to ensure a smooth canvas for painting. A thorough cleaning with a degreaser was essential to remove grime and stickiness.
Next, I applied masking tape and primer for clean lines and perfect paint adhesion. Even though some paints claim to need no prep, I've learned that proper priming is key. I chose a beautiful blue-grey colour called "Soapstone" by Fusion Mineral Paint. But I didn't stop there – the top received a touch of timber stain and glaze for character, and a white wax top coat for a breezy beach vibe. New shell knobs added elegance. The result? These once-plain tables sold for $400.
Moving on to "Furniture Flip Two"
I tackled a TV unit makeover with safety gear on – glasses and earmuffs for sanding. Belt sanders and orbital sanders smoothed the raw timber edges. A coat of primer and masking tape kept things tidy. I chose a grey sage green colour for the transformation. For added flair, I used a peel-and-stick stencil design inside the drawers. The second coat of paint sealed the deal. New handles added a Hamptons vibe. While I left the interior of the drawers unpainted, a touch of wood butter made the timber shine. A whitewash mix of water and paint kept the timber bright. A clear water-based polycrylic top coat protected my masterpiece.

Up next is "Furniture Flip Three"
Imagine a pair of charming bedside tables adorned with a delightful stencil design. The journey began with some hands-on action – belt sanding and orbital sanding to achieve that perfectly smooth finish. I was all about boosting productivity, and after some hole-fixing and hole-drilling to maintain crisp lines, I decided on a beautiful cream colour. Here's where the magic happened – I added a stencil design that gave these tables a unique twist. For added character, I chose a tan wash on the timber, blending it seamlessly with the painted surfaces. Those elegant shell knobs for hardware sealed the deal. A clear water-based polycrylic top coat ensured my hard work was protected. The result? A stunning transformation that seamlessly combined style and functionality. Not everyone's style, perhaps, but these beauties found a new home within 24 hours, fetching a price of $390.
Now, let's roll into "Furniture Flip Four"
This one's perfect for beginners eager to dip their toes into the world of furniture refinishing. First things first, I got down to business with a thorough cleaning, bidding farewell to dirt and contaminants. Stripping the top stain revealed the beautiful raw timber beneath, and sanding became my best friend in this endeavour. A belt sander made quick work of the varnish, while an orbital sander fine-tuned the finish. Here's where things got a tad artsy – I employed a whitewash technique with a mix of water and paint, adding a layer of enchantment to the timber's natural beauty. And of course, a clear polycrylic top coat was the grand finale. The result? Two side tables that went from drab to fab, ready to bring style to any living space.
Get ready for "Furniture Flip Five"
Allow me to introduce one of my all-time favourite makeovers. It was a commission piece where the client had the creative freedom to choose the paint colour and stain. Stripping the thick varnish was the initial challenge, but it only set the stage for what was to come. The choice of Myrtle Green paint brought serious pizzazz to the unit. However, creativity truly hit its peak during the process. Sanding the fronts of the drawers and doors created a unique picture frame effect. Hardware selection became critical, serving to elevate the unit's overall appearance. To ensure longevity, a clear water-based polycrylic top coat was the final touch. The result? A beautifully refinished TV unit that stands as a testament to the artistry of furniture refinishing. Truly unique, indeed.
Now, let's delve into "Furniture Flip Six"
Let's move on to a mission that aimed to revive a Queen Anne Dresser, which was in desperate need of a modern makeover. As always, cleanliness took centre stage. I began with a thorough cleaning, using a trusty degreaser to ensure a pristine surface for my makeover magic. Wood filler and veneer repairs laid the groundwork for the transformation. A 320-grit scuff sanding all over prepared the dresser for priming with a spray shellac primer. The client's choice of glossy black paint brought a sleek and modern vibe to the dresser. Interestingly, we chose to retain the original hardware, as it's what keeps the piece authentic, after all. The result? A glossy, modern black beauty of a dresser that made my client's bedroom positively elegant.
Moving right along to "Furniture Flip Seven"
Allow me to introduce you to a Balinese Coffee Table, a piece ripe for refinishing. Before any refinishing fun could begin, I got down to business with a thorough cleaning, ensuring there was a spotless surface, free from any pesky contaminants. Stripping the top layer of varnish was my next mission, and I relied on the trusty carbide scrape to assist in this project. Repair work called for some builder's bog magic to address imperfections and create a seamless finish. And let's not forget the hardware – new hardware with a gold mandala image brought a touch of elegance to the piece. Painting and top coat application ensured a refreshed look and protection for years to come. The result? A beautifully refinished coffee table that stands as a testament to the rewards of furniture refinishing.
Last but certainly not least, "Furniture Flip Eight"
Takes us on a journey with a Green Coffee Table, a commission piece designed to match the green picture frame TV unit previously unveiled. The process adhered to the tried-and-true routine – sanding, cleaning, and preparation, all culminating in a primer to set the stage. The colour choice remained consistent with the same Myrtle Green to maintain harmony. To amplify the aesthetics, a sepia stain and glaze added warmth to the timber. Because durability is paramount, a heavy-duty oil-based gloss top coat was the final addition, catering to the client's request. The result? A stunning coffee table that aligned perfectly with the client's vision, becoming the captivating centrepiece of their living room.
Whew, I've been on a thrilling ride through eight fantastic furniture makeovers. Each one is a testament to the incredible power of creativity and refinishing.
